Weekend Results – Manchester 62 FC

Friday saw a great match been played by our Under 9 Manchester 62 FC Red.  Manchester 62 FC started the match not only playing against a much older Lions Sacarello but against the wind, which is always a disadvantage, when playing at the Victoria Stadium.  Only mid way into the first half and the Reds where already behind by three goals.  With a couple of minutes to go of the first half, Red’s Carl De Torres was able to get a goal, to give some hope to the team for the second half.   In the Second half the mighty Reds went on an all out attack attitude, the pressure quickly paid off when two consecutive attacks were converted by Jamie Cortes when facing Lions goalkeeper on both attacks on a one on one situation.  The score was level on 3 – 3 when a clear penalty was not given to the Reds when one of Lion’s players clearly handled the ball in the area, and went unpunished.  The Reds continued with the pressure and soon found themselves for the first time in the match in front thanks from a good cross form the right wing which was converted by young Renai Marcus 4 – 3 to Man62.  The score seemed to stay as it was until some lack of communication between the Reds Goalkeeper and one of his defenders  saw Lions forward get in between them and level the score.  Manchester 62 FC pushed to the end trying to get a fifth goal, but time run out and the match finished a 4 – 4 draw.  Coaches Michael and Lee where impressed with the teams performance and even though the match ended in a draw they feel there team should have come out winners against a bigger and older Lions team.

Manchester 62 FC Under 7 where not so lucky this weekend as they lost 3 – 1 against Lincoln TP Towage.  It was a  0 – 0 score in the first half with all the action happening in the second half.  Lincoln went in front just before a penalty was not awarded to the Reds, things got worse for the Reds when Manchester 62 scored an own goal to increase the score for Lincoln.  Lincoln scored a third which looked as if the player was offside, but the Referee gave the goal.  The Reds where able to get a late consolation goal thanks to Jeremy Perera.  Final score Manchester 62 FC Red 1 – 3 Lincoln TP Towage.

Sunday saw Manchester 62 FC Senior Ladies go top of the league with a comfortable win over Collage FC the final score was 8 – 0 for the Reds.  Manchester 62 FC are now three points clear at the top of the league, with Lions FC ladies second.
